About Us

Founded in 1987, the Plainville Wind Ensemble began with interested adult musicians meeting weekly in the auditorium of the old Junior High School becoming Plainville’s first community band. They wished to continue to create a place where amateur and professional musicians could gather to rehearse and perform together.

Our Mission is to provide an educational, social and performing environment for local musicians in the tradition of the community band idiom, as ambassadors of music. As music remains an essential ingredient in the quality of our life, we are eager to share our musical talents with the public, expose audiences to the music of great composers, encourage young people to learn to play an instrument, and keep alive the traditions of the community band. The Ensemble plays a vital role in the lives of musicians and their audience as evidenced by the continuing interest in membership and the number of people attending our concerts throughout years. The group focuses on variety, diversity, entertainment and community service. With 80 full and part-time members, this year marks our largest membership, to date.

Music remains an essential ingredient in the quality of our life. We are eager to share our musical talents with the public, expose audiences to the music of great composers, encourage young people to learn to play an instrument, and keep alive the traditions of the community band.

This symphonic concert band is an all-volunteer adult ensemble and the musicians hail from many of the towns and cities throughout Connecticut.  We rehearse at the Plainville High School (47 Robert Holcomb Way, Plainville, CT 06062) on Tuesday nights from 7-9pm.

If you are interested in learning more about us, please feel free to audit/participate in a rehearsal or Contact Us.  See our Musicians page for our rehearsal and concert schedule.
