It sounded so nice, but blending in was different being on outside of the ensemble vs the inside… The sounds were not all around me, so it felt like I was playing louder.

It was interesting to be able to hear other players, but actually found it difficult to hear myself.

One similar thing that I've done with my band students is to have them all sit in a different spot away from anyone from their section. That opened everyone's ears instantly!
